PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – Gabe O'Campo

Well let me begin by wishing you all the best of the holiday season.  I hope that you all have had a pleasant and relaxing holiday.  All of our family got together after a little weather delay.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the Bashor family.  For any of our members that had not yet heard the news, Holly Bashor passed away on December 10th. I can only hope that your daughter is at peace now and free from the bounds of earthly pain and discomfort.  Please know that our family’s thoughts and prayers have been with you this past month.

It is especially at times like this that I can not help but think how fortunate we are to be given another year here on this Earth. I want to thank all of you for the support, and friendship that you have shared with me this past year. I have always said, that I am the sum total of all the people and experiences that I have met over time. I feel that I am certainly richer for the privilege of knowing all of you. I am constantly learning about this sport of fishing from so many of you.  Just this past week, I picked up the idea of fishing really small baits and corkies for winter steelhead. So these last few days, I have been tying rigs with small number 6 size hooks. This friend of mine catches lots of fish on these little hook.  I applied this idea with another tip about white corkies and cerise yarn, and there you have what I will be experimenting with on the coastal rivers when the fish get in.

This month our guest speaker will be the incomparable Todd Linklater.  Todd is one of the most dynamic speakers that we have address our chapter. His passion for helping people catch fish is evident in his talks.  I have had the pleasure of fishing with Todd a number of times, and he is certainly one of those guides that does his homework.  He is always chasing fish.  He is on the phone scouting areas.  He speaks to other guides about where they are finding fish.  He is also lots of fun to be with in a boat.  So please make plans to join us this January 3rd.

Hope to see all of you in January!
