General Information

We have been involved in stream restoration, river and boat ramp clean up projects. We are active in legislative matters concerning angler’s rights to access our rivers. We work closely with young people in our community. Last June many of our members participated in taking Big Brother/ Big Sister kids fishing on "Free Fishing Day". Our twenty-three volunteer Steelhead members cooked breakfast, provided fishing gear, boats and expertise for these youngsters. We also help the Junction City Moose Club at their annual fishing derby. This year over 200 kids were involved. We have Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and many of our younger members helping at our chapter work parties.

In addition to all this work we still have time for fun. Our chapter usually has several fishing outings a year. In June we had a camp-out fishing trip to Paulina Lake. Last fall we had a Salmon/Crab outing at Winchester Bay that was well attended. We also try to work in a winter fishing trip on one of the local rivers. These outings are great fun and a good way for members to get to know one another and pick up fishing tips.

Our meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the Eagles Lodge at 1375 Irving Road. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. Our meetings are designed to keep our members informed on issues affecting fish and fisheries. We often have guides that come to share their expertise on fishing local rivers and streams as well as ocean and bay fishing. Other guest speakers have included some local tackle and bait shop owners who gave their insight on new products as well as the old reliable that always work. We have even had Phil from Pro-Cure Bait Co. come in to discuss the issues with the Herring bait shortage and what could be used as a reasonable substitute. Every meeting has a speaker of interest as well as regular business stuff. Don’t forget the door prize drawing and name tag drawing.

Friends are welcome to attend our meetings. We hope you enjoy the meeting and …..We invite you to join our chapter!
