Presidents Message Gabe O’Campo
I really hope that you all plan to join us on the 7th of February for our next general meeting. We have planned to have Bob Toman come in to speak to our chapter. Mr. Toman is one of the most detail oriented guides/ anglers that you will ever meet. He is constantly testing, developing, and retesting his technique to help his clients catch fish and he will have stuff for sale. He is bringing an assortment of spinners, and other lures down, along with DVDs. If you have ever had the opportunity to see some of his fishing videos, you know what I mean. His approach is to actually film fish as they approach the lure/bait. He can show you what the bite actually looks like before and after you realize that you have a fish on. What about all the fish that swim up to your offering and don’t take it.? Why did that happen? Lure action, smell and color of the lure? Mr. Toman can help with all of these issues. Some of our members have had the pleasure of fishing with Bob at his Alaska lodge. They were not disappointed. So please mark your calendars and make plans to join us.
We now have a trap working at Letz creek. We should start to hear reports of fish being taken in our trap soon. Mike Blackmarr tells me that several fish have already been seen swimming in the pool below the trap. It is only a matter of time now before we start to collect the brood stock for next year’s fish.
I hope that some of you have had the chance to get out this winter and fish. I have heard of some good trips on some of our coastal rivers. I my self am waiting for the next rain before I get out and look for a bite.
We also have the good news that Mark Seghetti has his shop open again. It is so nice to have a place to go and visit with other anglers. So please take the time to get out and check out the new digs.
I hope that you all get out to the Boat and Sportsman’s show at the fairgrounds the first weekend of February. I always enjoy meeting new people, and checking out the new stuff. Also, please tune in for our annual KKNU Radio Auction on February 6th, with Barrett and Fox. We have 4 outstanding trips available this year. Bobber fishing with Kevin Lund, Side drifting with Robert Montgomery, Sturgeon Fishing with Bob Rees, and a trip with Todd Linklater. So please keep us in mind on the 6th of February from 7:00 to 9:00am.
